What causes climate and weather?
Prevailing Winds Another effect of prevailing winds is the fact that they carry air masses from place to place. The traveling air brings with it the characteristics of where it came from. For example, in the winter in North America, winds that blow from the North Pole bring frigidly cold air to central Canada and America. On the other hand, in the southeastern United States, winds blowing inland from the Gulf of Mexico keep places like Texas and Louisiana warm and humid.
