How do oceans affect climate
Ocean circulation The gyres create important currents along the eastern and western edges of the world's major oceans. The currents on the western edges are narrow and fast, while they are weaker along the eastern edges of oceans. This difference has to do with the fact that the coriolis force is close to zero at the Equator, and gradually gets stronger closer to the Poles. This variation in the coriolis force causes the ocean gyres to be lopsided. Next page -> ocean circulation, continued Links and resources |
