Satellites

isscp cloudsat calipso atrain default

Satellites have only come onto the scene in the past fifty years. There are two types of satellites - geostationary and polar orbiting.

A disadvantage of satellites is they are expensive and usually highly specialized as far as what they can measure. For this reason, there are several projects that cover a theme of measurements and are participated in by several agencies. These projects are essential for giving us a better idea of how our climate and weather work.
