How do These Variables Affect the Climate?

Each of these variables is important not only to the local weather, but also to the circulation of the entire atmosphere. This is because they all affect the energy of the atmosphere, which is detailed in our pages on Climate here. It might seem strange to think of the atmosphere as having energy, but think about a thunderstorm. Obviously, the energy in the storm's wind, lightening, and thunder had to come from somewhere.

There are four main kinds of energy in atmosphere. Click on each of these to learn more!
  1. Internal Energy

  2. Kinetic Energy

  3. Potential Energy

  4. Latent Energy
