What causes the weather?
The redistribution of hot and cold air in the atmosphere is like what happens
when you pour cold milk into hot coffee. At first, the milk makes neat swirly
designs in the coffee. But then, the milk will sink since it is cold and more
dense than the coffee. But if you stir it, they will mix together, and the
resulting beverage is warmer than the milk but cooler than the coffee.
The milk is kind of like the cold air in the polar regions, and the coffee is
like the hot air in the tropics. The weather systems are the atmosphere's way of
moving around the cold and warm air in an attempt to even out the temperature
differences.
