Regional weather

We talked about how climate and weather are different, but in some ways, climate and weather are closely related. This is because climate is by definition the average weather. Here are some examples:

• Places with a monsoon climate, like southern Asia, get a lot of rainy weather.

• Places with a dry climate, like Arizona, have several days a year with sunny, hot weather.

• The Madden-Julian Oscillation is a climate feature that results in strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in northern Australia.
