Fairwell to Cindy Carrick
Cindy Carrick took a new, exciting and challenging position with the USDA last
spring. She will be part time at CMMAP through the end of September 2010. She
will be missed dearly by all of us here in the Randall group and CMMAP.
Cindy began working for Dave Randall in 1988. She played a large part in
helping Dave's research group to grow and thrive over the next 20 years,
managing both students and researchers and dozens of funded projects, not to
mention the day-to-day business of a large research group. She
was the Chief Editorial Assistant for the Journal of Climate when Dave became Chief
Editor for ten years and helped the editorial process jump into the computer
age. Cindy was honored as the Colorado State University Distinguished
Administrative Professional of the Year in 2003.
When Dave began to have thoughts on establishing an NSF Science and Technology
Center, Cindy was a part of the planning from day 1. In the years of planning,
proposals and waiting, it is an understatement to say that Cindy was
instrumental in the whole process. All the nitty-gritty details that most of us
never heard about were mostly handled by her.
When we were awarded our center,
CMMAP, in 2005, we knew the work was just beginning. But with her excellent
organizational skills, Cindy has made the first four years of CMMAP's official
existence fun, exciting and less pressure-filled. She was a key player in
helping get our new CMMAP building built the way we needed it to be. And it is due in large part to
her organizational skills and ability to see the big picture that CMMAP was
awarded an additional five years of STC funding.
We had a party at Dave's home earlier in the summer for Cindy's fairwell. The
photos of the event
may be found here. We all want to give a huge Thank You to Cindy and a hearty Good Luck in all her
future endeavors!
