Hach Company in Loveland,
Colorado awards the
Little
Shop of Physics $26,250 to help fund CMMAP's summer
"Weather and Climate for Teachers" course.
CMMAP will host the second annual summer course for K-12 teachers to provide background in basic sciences, earth system science and climate science, with an emphasis on hands-on investigatory activities that they can use in their own classes. The Little Shop of Physics is a key player in developing and presenting the workshops for the course.
The workshops are significant professional development opportunities for teachers in the fields of science. Each of the 30 teachers who take part will receive 30+ hours of instruction from professionals in atmospheric science and science education, 2 hours of academic credit, hands-on materials to take back to their classes, and a stipend. Teachers will develop instructional modules as part of the workshop that they will test in their classes and then share during a follow-up session during the academic year. CMMAP is collecting these activities and sharing them more widely over the web and through other workshops.
Thanks to the support from the Hach Company, CMMAP is able to accommodate 10 additional teachers in the summer course.
