Katerina's focus this summer was surface ozone pollution, working with
Professor Elizabeth Barnes. Surface ozone pollution will be a concern in the
coming decades. Katerina analyzed modeled surface ozone's seasonal cycle
variability, long-term variability, and its correlation to atmospheric
circulation. She then showed which effects are due to changing emissions of
ozone precursors and which are due to meteorological changes.

Katerina is a junior with a major in geophysics at the Colorado School of Mines.
Her research interests vast including climate dynamics, climate modeling, severe
weather, using remote sensing in meteorology and other geophysics areas
including seismology and geohazards.
A native of Arvada, Colorado, she enjoys watching baseball, fishing, blogging,
playing the piano and ukulele and writing for The Oredigger campus newspaper
at Mines.
