Mikey is was a junior at Bard College in New York state with a double major
in Physics and Studio Art.  His research interests are the thermodynamics of
the atmosphere ad the Asian Monsoon.  This led him to study under Professor
Christian Kummerow looking at improving satellite precipitation detection using
Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) and NMQ ground based radar.<p></p>

The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission is a NASA/JAXA core
observatory satellite which launched on February 28th, 2014 and has since been
collecting precipitation data worldwide. Mikey's project sought to identify
inconsistency between GPM and ground-based radar. How accurate are the
retrieval products we are receiving? For which levels of precipitation (light,
moderate, heavy) are the satellite and ground-based radar best correlated?
And how does this correlation change seasonally, from Spring into Summer months?

Hailing from New York, while at CMMAP Mikey also spent a good deal of time exploring the outdoors with
fellow interns and painting wonderful landscapes.  His hobbies include cross
country running, cooking, reading, traveling, writing and, not suprisingly,
painting! <p></p>
