STUDYING GREENHOUSE GASES WITH SATELLITES The Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO), scheduled to launch in February of 2009, will collect precise global measurements of CO2 in the atmosphere. This is useful for model validation because a new generation of GCM's is being developed that tracks the exchange of carbon dioxide between the atmosphere, ocean, and land, and its effects on the Earth's climate.
