Mountain effects, a case study This photo was taken from space a few days after the blizzard ended. There is still a lot of snow over the state, but notice some snow-free pockets between Boulder and Longmont. In these areas, small-scale topography meant the winds were blowing downhill, resulting in warm and dry conditions, and so they didn't get any snow!
