Re: microphysics within CMMAPFrom Steve KruegerDate August 4, 2007 Wojetek, For the deep and shallow convection theme, one microphysical issue is how to represent SGS microphysics in the MMF with a 4-km horiz grid size. Anning Cheng discussed some approaches to this with Hugh and me at the Feb meeting. I think it belongs to your focus group. Should we talk about this next week? I hope you are NOT scheduled to meet on Tuesday and I will only be in FC on Wednesday and Thursday (I have not looked at the agenda yet). But Hugh will be there, so perhaps you can talk about this with him if the focus group meeting is slotted for Tuesday... What do you think? Cheers, Wojtek. From Steve Ghan Date August 6, 2007 Vince Larson will be applying his Latin hypercube method (JAS 2005) to Vaughan Philips' microphysics in SAM within the next year or so. -Steve Re: microphysics within CMMAPFrom Wojciech GrabowskiDate August 10, 2007 Steve, I am attaching a paper (which we are starting to revise following the review requesting minor revisins) describing a novel approach to ice microphysics that Hugh and myself put together last spring. It is significantly simpler and physically-based, which is not entirely the case for tradiational approaches that separate the ice field into cloud ice, snow, and graupel (Vaughan's microphysics falls into the latter category)... Happy reading. hugh_wojtek.ice.pdf Cheers, Wojtek. |
