Cloud-system-resolving models (CSRMs) used in MMFs or global CSRMs (GCRMs)
typically use a horizontal grid size in the range of 1 to 4 km to resolve cloud
systems. However, with this range of grid spacings many important physical
processes (e.g., shallow clouds, turbulence, microphysics and radiation)
remain subgrid-scale (SGS) and their effects need to be parameterized. Our
objective is to improve parameterizations of these SGS physical processes in
MMFs and GCRMs.
